East Side Fab vereint Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft beim digitalen Neujahrsempfang
East Side Fab unites business and science at the digital New Year’s reception
Saarbrücken, 14/01/2022: 2021 – Another Coronavirus “crisis year” is over. A year in which what the world has learned in 2020 from experience in dealing with the new situation is solidified: Continuing. With new technologies and a new sense of togetherness. Not losing courage and embarking on new paths. That is the central approach of East Side Fab.
Together with members, partners and supporters, the new year was duly rung in on 14/01/2022. As an innovation accelerator, East Side Fab supports all companies that want to turn ideas into sustainable successes. New methods such as “open innovation” and innovative tools enable members and partners to get involved in joint action. Coordinated by the project management team, new concepts, prototypes and business models emerge from ideas – this is where industry, SMEs, start-ups and creative players learn to grow closer together, master change together and set a sustainable course for the future.
This course for the future cannot be set alone. The exchange and cooperation with politics is immensely important here in order to achieve the appropriate results, and is therefore a top priority.
In his speech, Prime Minister Tobias Hans praised the innovative potential of East Side Fab: “The actors of East Side Fabs are unprecedentedly successful in connecting industry, SMEs, research, start-ups and creative actors more closely. Regular meetings, a lively exchange of ideas and suitable cooperations create important synergies that sustainably support the digital transformation of our economy and the innovation strategy of the Saarland. The well-functioning network therefore provides important impulses for innovations and future ideas to strengthen Saarland as a business location. Here, great things are created in small things.”

For the coming year, the focus is on further workshop formats, projects and, above all, lighthouse activities. For example, East Side Fab and other actors from the maker scene are organising a trade fair for makers in Saarland for the first time from 13 to 15 May 2022: make-it.saarland. The festival all about new technologies and trend topics for young and old. Students are invited to try out and experience IT, technology and crafts at first hand.
Minister for Economic Affairs Anke Rehlinger emphasised: “With combined forces, East Side Fab has become a hub where creativity, working and trying things out combine in modern structures. This is where groundbreaking ideas can emerge that give new impetus to our living and working environment and bring prosperity and employment. Our entire business location can benefit from the enormous potential of the ‘Fab’ for the areas of digitalisation and future markets. This brings additional tailwind when it comes to mastering the structural change in Saarland with all its opportunities and challenges.”

In addition to participating in nationwide campaigns such as Diversity Day and Digital Day, another highlight is Cybersecurity Day, which is held in cooperation with saaris and the Saarland Chamber of Industry and Commerce in July. In addition to impulses, the programme includes various workshops and activities such as Escape Rooms and a hackathon on IT security.
Another focus topic for members is raising awareness and implementing projects in the context of sustainability. The 17 global goals for sustainable development set by the UN in the Agenda 2030, from diversity to climate change to planetary boundaries, serve as a working basis.
The 1st Chairman of East Side Fab and Innovation Manager of the Hager Group, Johannes Hauck, is optimistic about the future: “We started with an idea for East Side Fab two years ago and can now look back on many innovative events and projects – and we are only getting started! The ideas of our members carry us forward and cooperation is actually put into practice.”
East Side Fab e.V. is funded by the Saarland Ministry of Economics, Labour, Energy and Transport and is additionally supported by membership fees.
