Cybersecurity – keine Option, sondern ein MUSS!
Cybersecurity – not an option, a MUST!
Renowned IT security experts from business, science and the public shared their knowledge and practical tips with over 150 participants: The first East Side Fab Cybersecurity Day was a complete success. The hybrid event took place on 24 June 2021 in the Open Space of East Side Fab – participants took part via a virtual platform.
“The concept for this one-day event came about through discussions with our members. We noticed that (Saarland) companies still have room for improvement when it comes to cybersecurity. At the same time, the number of cyberattacks is increasing rapidly – including in Saarland,” explains East Side Fab Managing Director Anna Lawera. “With the Cybersecurity Day, we want to provide first-hand information and begin to close this knowledge gap. Because even in the smallest companies, there are hardly any processes left that are not IT-supported and therefore offer a place for attack.”
The focus of the day was on the questions: What are the dangers of the digitalisation of business processes? What legal requirements must be observed and how can you best arm yourself and your company against cyberattacks? In addition to an overview of current hacker attacks and concretely quantified damage reports, the participants also gained insights into the topic of industrial security, the digitalisation roadmap of a bank and relevant first-hand information about the latest IT security technologies.
After a warm-up with the partners and participants, Ammar Alkassar, the Saarland’s representative for innovation and strategy, kicked off the event. In his lecture, he clearly highlighted the specific challenges that companies are facing, how the Saarland region is currently positioned and what answers science is already offering today. The speakers went into more depth with practical examples and their own experiences. The event was rounded off by a panel discussion on the topic “Together and preventively against cyber attacks – how the state and companies can prevent damage worth billions”.
Summary of the day: Cybersecurity has many dimensions – from technical solutions and employee training to the right contact persons from whom companies can actively seek support. Early action, mutual support and information were particularly highlighted as success factors. The event was the starting signal for further formats such as working groups, round tables and workshops on the topic of cybersecurity. The success of the event and the desire for exchange confirm the relevance and the concept.
In all its activities, East Side Fab pays special attention to collaboration between business and science. The Cybersecurity Day was organised with the members and partners of East Side Fab e.V., such as CISPA, htw saar, saaris e.V., SaarLB, the Saarland State Chancellery, Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe Saar and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Transport.
